About The ARRL- Southern Division

A Message From The Director

Thanks to Tom Muye, AC4TM for working diligently to get the website working and to make it live today.

I’d like to thank Greg Sarratt, W4OZK, for nine years as Director of the Southeastern Division and all the time that he has invested in the ARRL and future of amateur radio. We obviously had some differences in opinion, but he has done everything that he could do to make the transition of the position an easy one for me.

There are a number of  people who helped me get elected and are helping me understand the duties and responsibilities of the position. I’ve spoken to most of the Section Managers and Section Emergency Coordinators and many volunteers throughout the division. Your work is recognized and appreciated and I will work for you to get the resources that you need to do your jobs easily without excessive bureacracy.

Many of you have heard me speak or read what I have written about “Servant Leadership.” My primary duty is to the membership of the ARRL and our Field Leadership organization who represents them.  I suggest that, if you’re in or considering taking a leadership position, that you read Robert Greenleaf’s famous essay “The Leader as Servant” and consider adopting this style of leadership.   The link is below.

There are several issues I want to write about and get feedback about before I go to Newington for orientation and the Board meeting on January 14.

The first is “How is the ARRL doing for you?” If you are dissatisfied, I’d like to hear why, specifically.

You may know that there are specific threats to our 3GHz and 5GHz allocations that are now open for comments at the FCC – link below.

There are a lot of changes being proposed at the January meeting and I’ll write about those in the next few days.

Thanks for checking in! 73,

Mickey Baker, N4MB
